Paul Duan is a social entrepreneur and data scientist who is one of the pioneers of the tech for good movement. After leaving a data science career in Silicon Valley, he founded Bayes Impact in 2014, an NGO that leverages artificial intelligence for social impact. Technologies developed by Bayes Impact have improved care for several million beneficiaries, in areas ranging from employment to healthcare, including reducing police violence in California and building France's national Covid contact tracing system. Paul has also helped theorize new modes of collaboration between public administration and civil society. In particular, he popularized the concept of “citizen public service,” a doctrine that has led to the creation of several innovation programs by the French government. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, having been elected an Ashoka Fellow, Forbes 30 under 30, MIT 35 under 35, and an Aspen Institute Young Leader.
